Commends Gov for balanced appointments

GOV. Chukwuma Soludo’s masterplan for Anambra State has been projected to spur massive development in all the 179 communities, particularly rural areas.

President-General of Awgbu Progress Union (APU), Awgbu, Orumba North Local Government Area, Akidi Emmanuel Ugochukwu, made the projection while addressing newsmen shortly after his election in Abonato Hall, on Saturday.

Predicating his projection on the five key pillars underpinning Gov. Soludo’s master plan, Akidi described them as masterstrokes that will score the bull’s eye, particularly in creating competitive cities out of previously ignored towns and communities while existing urban centres and cities are transformed into mega cities in line with the governor’s agenda of turning the state into a Dubai of Africa.

While pleading with the people of Awgbu, especially those who could win the positions they contested for in the election and their supporters to bury their hatchets and embrace peace in the interest of the town, the former leader of Orumba North legislative council explained that only by so doing will Awgbu not only continue to contribute its quota to socio-economic development of Anambra State but also stand better chance of deriving more benefits from the Soludo-led administration.

Noting that Prof. Soludo has demonstrated rare sense of equity in taking government to every nook and cranny by bringing his top aides from hitherto forgotten  or excluded communities, Akidi explained that only such criterion would lead to Awgbu having two persons in Anambra power corridor for the first time just like many other communities.

Akidi also explained “Anambra’s transition into a non-oil economy” as “a strategy that will open up the grassroots for massive development since goods produced in villages will meet instant market once they are of international standard while bringing the world to Anambra.”

According to him, no administration has taken on grassroots development with this fervor.

Therefore, he called on Awgbu people and others to rally round the governor by contributing to the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) base.

Also speaking, immediate past Acting President-General of Awgbu Progress Union,  Joe Onwuchekwa, extolled officers of state Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Matters, led by the commissioner, Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne for their unbiased supervision of the election.

Onwuchekwa equally urged the governor to expedite action on more youth inclusion in scheme of affairs.

It will be recalled that election of the new executives of Awgbu Progress Union took place through open ballot process in a peaceful atmosphere during which about 500 persons voted after being accredited for the exercise which has continued to receive commendations from Awgbu people and stakeholders.
