In Anambra, police condemns killing of lawmaker, aide

ANAMBRA State Police Command has condemned the  barbaric killing of the lawmaker representing Aguata 2 Constituency,  Okechukwu  Okoye, alongside  his aide, Cyril Chiegboka.

  Speaking during a press briefing  at the command’s headquaters,  Awka, the Commissioner of Police, Echeng  Echeng said that on  May 21 2022, a relation of Hon.Okechukwu  Okoye reported to the police in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State that he believed that a headless corpse allegedly lying along Nnobi- ldeani Road was that of the lawmaker and his aide abducted on May 15, 2022 at Oraeri, in Aguata LGA of Anambra State.

  According to him, the police operative accompanied him to the scene and found the claim to be true. “The headless body was recovered for preservation and autopsy and later same day, information was received that the head of the lawmaker was seen at Amichi, in Nnewi South LGA,” he concluded.

  He stated that the area has been the epicentre of attacks by unknown gunmen on security forces, vigilante groups and defenceless civilians.

  He promised that no stone will be left unturned until purveyors of violence are totally eradicated to make Anambra State safe for growth and development.

  He also used  the opportunity to condemn attack on non indigenes in the state, and called on all leaders of thought to do all within their power to put and end to targeted killings in the larger interest of their people and the nation as a whole.

  He commiserated with the family, kinsmen of the lawmaker, state House of Assembly, executive governor of the state, Charles Soludo on the tragic incident.
