Tanker drivers block Abuja-Lokoja highway



…Kogi govt orders immediate reopening

TANKER drivers blocked Abuja-Lokoja-Lagos highway following the alleged death of one of their colleagues who refused to stop for a check at a military point around Jamata, close to Murtala Mohammed Bridge.

  Although the aggrieved lorry drivers started their protest yesterday night, they were still occupying the road today.

  Sources claimed that the tanker driver refused to stop when flagged down at the military checkpoint and was chased by the security personnel. But he stopped on seeing that he was being chased before attempting to run into the bush where he fell into a ditch and was seriously injured.

  He was rushed to the hospital for medical attention but later died.

Meanwhile, Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello has ordered the immediate reopening of the blocked by tanker drivers.

  Bello gave the order in Lokoja through his Special Adviser on Security Matters, Omodara Jerry.
