Gunmen invade schools in Anambra, scare away pupils

THERE was pandemonium as gunmen invaded schools in some parts of Onitsha, Ogbaru and Idemili areas of Anambra State on Tuesday, chasing pupils out of the classrooms. The hoodlums who were apparently out to enforce sit-at-home order created tension causing pupils to run helter-skelter.     

   Information about their presence spread to people at different places in minutes, triggering a fresh wave of confusion as parents rushed to schools to retrieve their children back home from schools.

  In Idemili North Area, gunshots were fired causing panic as people scampered for safety. Anonymous eye- witness account said that the schools affected were located in Ogbaru.

  Another eyewitness who spoke to National Light on condition of anonymity said it was a nervy moment for many parents on the day. “It was a scary moment and those of us whose children were in schools got more of the shock.
