Again 3 persons die in  Anambra autocrash

IT WAS a gory sight on Wednesday few metres away from the Government House, Awka Anambra State as the lifeless body of a cyclist lay along the expressway with the head completely smashed following a fatal crash between a trailer and the unfortunate bike rider who rammed into the highway and met his waterloo. 

  Again at Upper Iweka in Onitsha another fatal accident occurred in front of Adam and Eve bus terminal. Report from the Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra State Sector Command has it that the fatality was caused by break failure and loss of control on the wheels by a trailer driver. 

The FRSC in its First Information Report on the incident as compiled by the Sector Public Education Officer, Margret Onabe, disclosed that the Onitsha fatal crash which claimed the lives of a pedestrian hawking pure water and another person in his car patiently waiting for his turn to pick passengers,  involved a fully loaded trailer which lost control on the expressway and veered into Adam and Eve park where it caused the  catastrophe. 

  The FRSC First Information Report on the Onitsha fatal crash reads, ” A fatal road traffic crash occurred in  front of Adam and Eve Motors, Upper Iweka by Awka-Onitsha Expressway today 1st June, 2022 at about 15:35hours. 

  “The crash involved 4 people comprising three male adults and 1 female adult. Number injured;1 male adult. Number killed 2: 1 male adult (a driver seated in his vehicle waiting for his turn to load) and 1 female adult (a pedestrian hawking sachet water).

  The cause of the fatal crash was attributed to loss of control and break failure. An eyewitness  said the driver of the fully loaded truck with tiles and other building materials failed brake, lost control and rammed into 3 stationary vehicles parked and also 2 pedestrian and crashed. The crash was between 4 vehicles

  Unidentified drivers of a Mercedes Benz truck  with registration number: XJ444NSH, a Mercedes Benz 190 car with registration number HAL585RF, Suzuki Every bus with registration number: RLU799XC and Mistibushi L300 bus with registration number:SSM892ZR.

  As at the time of filling this report, the injured victim was taken to Toronto Hospital for treatment and the dead victims deposited at same hospital morgue by FRSC rescue team from RS5.31A Upper Iweka Outpost Command. The personnel managed traffic. Efforts are being made to tow the truck to CPS Police Division, Onitsha.

  The Sector Commander, Anambra State Corps, Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi commiserated with the families of the dead victims and also wished the injured victims quick recovery.

He urged drivers to ensure their vehicles meet minimum safety standard before hitting the road.
