WINNER of All Progressives Congress (APC)’s presidential primary election, Senator Bola Tinubu, has said the party will present a common front in its campaign ahead the forthcoming general elections in 2023.
Tinubu stated this in his acceptance speech shortly after clinching the party’s presidential ticket in Eagle Square, Abuja, yesterday.
Thanking President Muhammadu Buhari, APC leadership, governors elected on the platform of the party, delegates, aspirants and all those who contributed to the successful conduct of the convention, Tinubu stressed the need for unity, cohesion and understanding among all party members to ensure electoral victory for the party.
According to Tinubu, he holds no grudge against those who contested against him, saying all hands must be on deck to ensure that the People’s Democratic Party is stopped from coming back to power in 2023.
“Today is another historic day and it is thanks to God almighty that you are living healthy to witness it, to be part of it, to be your calling, to be your arrangement. We all, not only as a party, it has gone beyond partisan idea now. It is yours as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. You put it together and you have even gracious and humble from the beginning. We are very grateful to you,” he said.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari, his vice, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President, Ahmad Lawan and others have congratulated Tinubu on his election as the presidential flag bearer, yesterday.
Presenting APC’s flag to Tinubu, President Buhari called on members and leaders of the party to rally round Tinubu in order to win the general election.
Also Prof Osinbajo congratulated Tinubu in a post by the spokesman of his campaign organisation, Mr. Richard Akinnola’s Facebook page.
Similarly, Lawan described Tinubu as a popular choice while congratulating him in a letter personally signed by the Senate President.
It will be recalled that Tinubu clinched APC’s presidential ticket, polling 1,271 votes to defeat his closest rival, former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who scored 361 votes at the convention of the party, held in Eagles Square, Abuja, on Tuesday night.
In another development, presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, yesterday, held an emergency meeting with state governors elected on the party’s platform.
Sources said the meeting, which was called by Atiku, held until wee-hours in PDP campaign headquarters, Abuja.
Although the agenda was still sketchy, the source said Atiku called the meeting for the party’s hierarchy to perfect strategies in response to Tinubu’s emergence.
