COST of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) that is also known as cooking gas is rising rapidly in towns and cities across South East geopolitical zone where the commodity’s pump price has shot above N800 per kilogramme.

  While price varies from town to town, increase also depends on the point of purchase even within one town or city.

  A market survey conducted in Enugu showed that in Awkunanaw area of the city, several retail outlets sell a kilogram of cooking gas between N780 and N800 as against the former price of N720 and N750 while in Owerri, Imo State, a mini gas depot in Aladimma Estate sells around N820 per kilo.

  The survey also found that in Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka in Anambra State, a kilogramme of cooking gas sells between N800 and N850 depending on the buying point or the area it is located in the three cities.

  Blaming the fluctuation in prices of the product on the unstable nature, an official of a cooking gas depot projected more hike in near future.

  This price schedule can change any time. This is why we believe that more hike may be on its way. You may come here tomorrow and discover that the price has gone up or come down; it all depends on the suppliers and the rate at which the commodity lands,” he said.
