Beheaded Anambra lawmaker: Soludo confirms arrest of 4 suspects

ANAMBRA State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma  Soludo has confirmed the arrest of four suspects in relation to the beheaded  Anambra lawmaker,  Dr. Okechukwu Okoye.

The governor said this on Thursday,during the burial Mass of the late Chiegboka, at St Paul’s Outstation, Isuofia, Aguata LGA, Anambra state. 

The late Mr. Okoye, who represented Aguata II Constituency at the state’s House of Assembly, was also an indigene of Isuofia, the same community with Gov. Soludo. 

He was kidnapped in May, 2022, at Aguata, alongside his campaign director, Cyril Chiegboka and their bodies were found on May 15, 2022.

Confirming the arrest of the suspects, Gov. Soludo revealed that the suspects were in custody and would be brought to book. 

Gov. Soludo hinted that the current spate of criminality in the state was a contest between light and darkness. He also revealed that the criminal elements were sworn to gods who demanded blood sacrifices. 

“The current spike in cases of kidnapping and killing of innocent citizens undermines the sanctity of human lives and no one or group has the right to take human lives with such gross impunity.”

Gov. Soludo, while commiserating with the family also sympathised with families of those who have directly or indirectly lost their loved ones and re-assured the people that the government is doing everything possible with the security agencies to restore peace and security to the state in accordance with the law.”

Earlier in a homily, the Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia, Most Rev. Peter Okpalaeke declared that God would judge the perpetrators by himself as God is alive despite the situations.  

Bishop Okpalaeke described the late Chiegboka as a man who was committed to many courses that advance humanity, calling on people to endeavour to get involved in things that would benefit God and the society.
