Collective effort needed to stop indiscriminate waste disposal – ASWAMA boss

MANAGING Director and Chief Executive Officer, Anambra State Wastes Management Agency (ASWAMA), Mike Ozoemena has called for collective effort to quit indiscriminate dumping of refuse and assist the state government in the fight against unhealthy environment by heeding to instructions and laws on proper wastes disposal.

  Mr Ozoemena, who made the call in an interview with our reporter, in his office in  Awka, explained that the Anambra State Government has revealed its plan of engaging contractors in wastes management in the state as a way of actualising its vision of house to house collection and evacuation of wastes in order to enthrone a clean, livable, and healthy environment for ndi Anambra.

  Ozoemena charged the market, school, and church leaders to join the government in sensitising their subjects on need for a clean and healthy environment, as according to him, the government alone cannot achieve the proposed smart and livable state.

  Regretting the dirty and unhealthy status of the state, the ASWAMA boss made it clear that the mandatory monthly sanitation exercise in the state is no longer business as usual, saying that the agency is out and already prepared to enforce total compliance by every home and business premises in the exercise across the state.
